Businesses in Oxford are now able to apply for the latest lockdown support grants aimed at supporting businesses as they reopen to the public.

In line with the Government’s roadmap, non-essential shops as well as hairdressers, leisure, and gyms have been able to reopen from 12 April. Hospitality businesses have also been allowed to reopen – but only to serve customers sitting outside.

Businesses can now apply for the coronavirus restart grant, to help support businesses to reopen safely.

The grants are funded by the Government but are administered in Oxford by Oxford City Council. The City Council has in place systems so that businesses in Oxford can apply for the grants.

To apply, visit our Guidance and support for businesses page.

Coronavirus restart grant

The Restart Grant is a one-off grant for businesses occupying a property, to help them re-open safely.

The Restart Grant scheme supports businesses that are predominantly reliant on delivering in-person services for the general public.

Grants are available for non-essential retail, as well as hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym business premises..

The scheme will provide:

  • Grants of up to £6,000 for non-essential retail business premises, to help them reopen safely
  • Grants of up to £18,000 for hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym business premises

The closing date for all applications is 30 June 2021.

To apply, visit our Guidance and support for businesses page.

Additional Restrictions Grant

This scheme enables local authorities to pay discretionary grants of up to £2,000 per 28 days to the following types of business, if eligible:

  • Closed businesses that do not have a rateable value
  • Businesses that have been severely impacted rather than closed

Businesses that have already applied for an Additional Restrictions Grant for 2 December 2020 to 15 February 2021, will have their application automatically extended to include the period until 31 March 2021.

There is not yet a closing date for these applications.

This, and any follow-on Additional Restrictions Grant schemes for 1 April 2021 onwards will be posted our Guidance and support for businesses page as soon as they are available.

Tom Bridgman, Executive Director for Development at Oxford City Council said: “As businesses begin to reopen their doors, the latest pot of funding is now available to apply for. I encourage any eligible business who in need of support to apply for a restart grant.”
