Thames Travel has launched a bus driver recruitment campaign, following a significant expansion of its services in a boost to the local economy.

This year Thames Travel has invested in improving connectivity to employment sites located in the south of the County. This includes improved links between the city of Oxford and Harwell and between Abingdon and Culham. It has also added new services to Great Western Park connecting residents to key regional employment hubs including Didcot, Harwell and Milton Park. Additionally, it added a night-bus service between Oxford and Didcot and is due to launch a Football Special this weekend connecting Didcot and Abingdon directly to the Kassam Stadium. The investment programme also saw Thames Travel move into a new depot earlier this year.

The multi-million-pound investment in new services and new ultra-low emission (Euro VI) vehicles has created new jobs and it is embarking on a recruitment campaign for bus drivers to support the growth, including holding a series of recruitment open days.

Phil Southall, Thames Travel Managing Director, said:

“A key part of our strategy has been to develop attractive bus services to serve major employment hubs in the south of the county. We have done so via investment in new routes and services which has improved connectivity for some of the fastest-growing areas of economy in the county.

“The investment has created more jobs for the Oxfordshire economy, and we are actively seeking drivers to support this important growth area. Being a bus driver is a highly rewarding job that comes with some fantastic benefits and career prospects. Thames Travel is a people first business, we are customer focused, embrace diversity and work as a team.”

Thames Travel’s fleet of buses are low emission vehicles (Euro V or better) and it is the third largest bus operator in Oxfordshire. It serves South Oxfordshire and into Berkshire, carrying 2.9m passengers per year. Drivers work a 40-hour week and the pay rate is between £11.00 and £17.21 per hour.
